Xitang hat eine gute Lage und liegt an der Kreuzung von Jiangsu, Zhejiang und Shanghai und gehört zum Landkreis Jiashan in der Provinz Zhejiang. Es liegt 90 Kilometer östlich von Shanghai, 9 Kilometer südlich von Jiashan County, südlich der 320 National Road und der Shanghai-Hangzhou-Ningbo Expressway, nördlich der 318 National Road, durch die der Shenjiahu Expressway führt. „Das Wasser im Frühling und Herbst, die Stadt in den Tang- und Song-Dynastien, die Architektur der Ming- und Qing-Dynastien und die Menschen in der Neuzeit“ sind die treffendste Zusammenfassung von Xitang.
