Einer der ersten wissenschaftlichen ZOOs der Welt Der Veranstaltungsort ist das einzige Kongresszentrum der Welt mit einem ZOO vor Ort: ein ZOO mit einem eigenen preisgekrönten Wissenschafts- und Forschungszentrum, das nach den höchsten Tierschutzstandards von EAZA und WAZA, den internationalen Zooverbänden, verwaltet wird, die vom Antwerpener ZOO mitbegründet wurden. Wissenschaftliche Forschung liegt in der DNA des ZOO. Wissenschaft wird im Antwerpener ZOO, aber auch in Forschungsstationen im Ausland, im Labor des ZOO, unter unserer Aufsicht an Universitäten und vor allem im zoologischen Forschungszentrum „Centre for Research and Conservation“ (SFB) praktiziert und angewendet. Seit dem offiziellen Start im Jahr 2000 hat sich dieses Forschungszentrum zu einem der fortschrittlichsten zoologischen Forschungszentren weltweit entwickelt. Die Wissenschaftler und Experten des ZOO sind führend in ihren Bereichen, zu denen Genetik, Tierverhalten, Tierschutz, Veterinärmedizin und Tiermorphologie gehören. Mit dieser Expertise arbeiten wir in Forschungsprojekten zu drei Hauptthemen zusammen: Tierschutz, Naturschutz und zoologische Grundlagenforschung.
