Über 500 Jahre lang überragten seine majestätischen gelben Dächer die Vorstellungskraft der Menschen in der Hauptstadt — während der Ming- und Qing-Dynastie lebten hier 24 Kaiser und ihre Konkubinen. Dieser Palast wurde „Verbotene Stadt“ genannt, weil nur Personen mit politischem Status ihn betreten durften. Heute ist er eine der meistbesuchten Attraktionen der Welt.
