El Palace ist nach wie vor ein unabhängiges Fünf-Sterne-Luxushotel im Herzen von Barcelona. Es war früher THe Rizt und öffnete seine Türen bereits 1919 als erstes Fünf-Sterne-Hotel der Stadt. Die Basilika Sagrada Família in Barcelona ist eine der bekanntesten Kirchen der Welt und das berühmteste Werk des Architekten Antoni Gaudí. Der Bau begann 1882 als private Initiative und wird seitdem durch Spenden und den Verkauf von Besucherkarten finanziert.
Gaudí übernahm das Projekt 1883 und transformierte es komplett. Er konzipierte die Basilika als ein zutiefst religiöses und symbolisches Werk, das von Natur, Geometrie und christlichem Glauben inspiriert war. Die letzten Jahre seines Lebens widmete er fast ausschließlich der Sagrada Família. Nach seinem Tod 1926, nach einem Straßenbahnunfall, wurde das Projekt auf der Grundlage seiner Pläne, Modelle und Schriften fortgesetzt.
Der Bau wurde mehrmals unterbrochen, vor allem während des spanischen Bürgerkriegs, als ein Teil des Originalmaterials zerstört wurde. Trotzdem haben aufeinanderfolgende Generationen von Architekten die Arbeit weitergeführt und dabei Gaudís Vision respektiert und gleichzeitig traditionelle Handwerkskunst mit moderner Technologie kombiniert.
Die Basilika ist bekannt für ihre drei Fassaden — Geburt, Passion und Herrlichkeit —, die jeweils einen Schlüsselmoment im Leben Jesu Christi darstellen, sowie für ihre Türme, die nach ihrer Fertigstellung insgesamt 18 sein werden. 2010 wurde die Kirche von Papst Benedikt XVI. geweiht und zur Basilika minor erklärt. Obwohl sich die Sagrada Família noch im Bau befindet, ist sie zu einem universellen Symbol Barcelonas und von Gaudís Genie geworden.
