Zumindest im Vergleich zu den heutigen Möglichkeiten. Im Jahr 1800 waren die Grundnahrungsmittel Nudeln, Reis, Öl und Kerzen zum Anzünden, Marseille-Seife, Kleidung und Schuhe. Wolle wurde oft zu Hause gesponnen und von den eigenen Schafen hergestellt; Stoff wurde aus Hanf und Flachs hergestellt.
