Die wichtigen Spenden und Vermächtnisse von Institutionen und Privatpersonen, die das Museum in den ersten Jahren seines Bestehens erhielt, legten die zukünftigen Linien fest, in denen die Sammlung wachsen sollte. Ein weiteres Merkmal des Museums ist sein Wunsch, zeitgemäß zu sein, was in seinen Anfängen eine Reaktion auf die Anliegen der lokalen Künstlergemeinschaft war. Diese Wette auf Zeitgemäßheit kam etwa zehn Jahre später zustande, als ein neues Museum für zeitgenössische und moderne Kunst gegründet wurde. So öffnete das Museum für Moderne Kunst, das sich ursprünglich in Ratsgebäuden befand, 1924 seine eigenen Türen. Ihr erster Direktor war der Maler Aurelio Arteta.

Das Euskalduna Conference Centre ist ein einzigartiges Gebäude und eines der Aushängeschilder des neuen Bilbao des 21. Jahrhunderts Euskalduna Jauregia — Palacio Euskalduna. S.A. ist ein börsennotiertes Unternehmen, das dem Provinzrat von Bizkaia gehört. Das Gebäude wurde von den Architekten Federico Soriano und Dolores Palacios so entworfen, dass es einem im Bau befindlichen Schiff ähnelt, da es an der Stelle steht, an der sich früher die Euskalduna-Werft befand. Es wurde 2001 auf der 6. spanischen Architekturbiennale mit dem Enric Miralles Preis für Architektur ausgezeichnet. Dieser 58.200 m² große Mehrzweckkomplex befindet sich im Herzen der Stadt Bilbao, in der Nähe des internationalen Flughafens. Es beherbergt eine Vielzahl von wirtschaftlichen, geschäftlichen, akademischen, politischen, institutionellen, sozialen und kulturellen Veranstaltungen. Hier findet die Opernsaison der Stadt statt, die von ABAO (Friends of the Opera of Bilbao), einer der bekanntesten in Spanien und Europa, organisiert wird. Es ist auch die Heimatbasis des Bilbao Symphony Orchestra (BOS), das 1920 gegründet wurde und seit 1922 auftritt. Das Gebäude umfasst eine Reihe von Tagungs- und Unterhaltungsräumen (ein Auditorium, Kongresshallen, Besprechungsräume, Büros, Foyers und eine herrliche Ausstellungshalle) sowie Servicebereiche mit Lagerräumen, Umkleideräumen, Proberäumen usw.
