Das Stadion hat große Menschenmengen beherbergt und die Zuschauer der lokalen Fußballmannschaft Guangzhou Evergrande werden im Stadion gespielt. Am 7. Februar 1989, dem Mondneujahr, fanden Hong Kong Television Broadcasts Limited und Guangdong Television Broadcasts Limited im Guangzhou Tianhe Sports Centre und im White Swan Hotel statt, um das chinesische Neujahrsfest in Guangzhou zu feiern. Im Stadion fanden zweimal das Fußballfinale der Asienspiele und zweimal das Endspiel der AFC Champions League statt (2013 und 2015). Das Stadion erreichen Sie am besten mit der Guangzhou-Metrolinie 1 bis zur Station Tianhe Sports Center (Osttor), mit der Linie 3 bis zur Station Linhexi (Nordtor) und mit der Linie 1 oder 3 bis zur Station Tiyu Xilu (Westtor und Südtor).
