Ayasofya (Hagia Sophia) Die Kirche Hagia Sophia wurde während der Regierungszeit von Kaiser Theodosius erbaut und im Feuer des Nika-Aufstands im Jahr 532 n. Chr. während der Regierungszeit von Justinian niedergebrannt. Im gleichen Jahr befahl Justinian den Bau einer neuen Basilika, die wir heute sehen können, und nur fünf Jahre später, 537 n. Chr., wurde sie der Öffentlichkeit zugänglich gemacht. Die Architekten dieser neuen Basilika waren Isidorus aus Milet (Söke) und Anthemious aus Tralles (Aydın). Die Basilika war mit einer herrlichen Kuppel mit einer Höhe von 55,60 m und einem Durchmesser von 30,80 bis 31,88 m bedeckt, mit 40 Fachwerkhölzern und 107 Säulen.
