Oktober 2013 von der Joint-Venture-Gruppe Cengiz-Mapa-Limak-Kolin-Kalyon mit dem Ziel gegründet, einen neuen Flughafen in Istanbul, einer der am weitesten entwickelten Städte der Welt mit einer langen Geschichte, einzuführen. Der Flughafen Istanbul wurde in einer Rekordzeit von 42 Monaten gebaut und ist eines der größten Infrastrukturprojekte in Türkiye. Stand April 2022 sieht die Aktionärsstruktur von IgA wie folgt aus: 55% der Anteile von Kalyon Holding und 45% der Anteile von Cengiz Holding. Die geografische Lage des Flughafens IgA Istanbul hat zu seinem Status als internationales Drehkreuz geführt. Es bedient jährlich schätzungsweise 90 Millionen Passagiere und verfügt über ein Hauptterminal von 1,4 Millionen Quadratmetern, drei unabhängige Start- und Landebahnen, einen Flugkontrollturm und Unterstützungseinrichtungen. Der Flughafen IGA Istanbul, der in den fünf Jahren seit seiner Gründung über 250 Millionen Passagiere beherbergt hat, ist nun in der Lage, ab Januar 2024 Flüge zu 315 Zielen auf der ganzen Welt durchzuführen. Sobald alle Phasen abgeschlossen sind, wird der Flughafen iGA Istanbul Flüge zu mehr als 300 Zielen mit einer jährlichen Passagierkapazität von 200 Millionen anbieten.
