Jedes Jahr, wenn der Winter kommt, verlangsamt sich das unberührte Wasser des Flusses Torne und gefriert zu Eis. An einem kühlen Tag im Jahr 1989 wurde das allererste Icehotel von Hand aus diesen riesigen Eisblöcken geformt, die aus genau diesem Fluss stammen, der nebenan fließt. Heute, über drei Jahrzehnte später, ist das Icehotel zu einem schwedischen Wahrzeichen für Reisende aus aller Welt geworden, das man unbedingt besuchen muss.
