Place Vendôme ist ein Platz im 1. Arrondissement von Paris, Frankreich, nördlich der Tuileriengärten und östlich der Église de la Madeleine. Es ist der Ausgangspunkt der Rue de la Paix. Das Opernhaus Palais Garnier befindet sich am Place de l'Opéra, das zwischen 1861 und 1875 vom Architekten Charles Garnier erbaut wurde. Es verfügt über eine reich verzierte Fassade, eine monumentale Treppe und ein italienisches Auditorium mit 1.900 Sitzplätzen und einer von Marc Chagall bemalten Decke, die von einem riesigen Kristallleuchter beleuchtet wird. Dieses Gebäude ist ein perfektes Beispiel für die Architektur des 19. Jahrhunderts, die seine metallische Struktur unter vielen dekorativen Merkmalen versteckt. Von 1881 bis heute hat es mehrere Restaurierungs- und Modernisierungsarbeiten durchlaufen, die es funktioneller gemacht haben. Maria Callas und Rudolf Nureyev sind einige der vielen Künstler, die hier zur Geschichte der Oper und des Balletts beigetragen haben. Bis zur Eröffnung des Opernhauses der Bastille präsentierte das Opernhaus Palais Garnier nur Ballett. Seitdem ist sie wieder zu ihrer ursprünglichen Berufung zurückgekehrt, eine Akademie für Musik, Tanz und Oper zu sein. Besucher können nicht nur zu einer Show gehen, sondern auch eine Ausstellung oder die Haupthalle besuchen, die von 11 bis 16.30 Uhr geöffnet ist, um das reich vergoldete und rote Samtdekor zu genießen.
