Seit dem 19. Jahrhundert ermöglicht ein schiffbarer Damm die Überquerung des Sees an der engsten Stelle zwischen Rapperswil und Hurden. Die hölzerne Fußgängerbrücke existiert ebenfalls noch. Im April 2001 wurde an der Stelle der alten Fußgängerbrücke eine 841 Meter lange, zweieinhalb Meter breite, modern gestaltete Holzbrücke eingeweiht. Sie ist die längste Holzbrücke der Schweiz. Es steht auf insgesamt 233 Pfählen. Bis auf wenige Bauelemente (Jochbalken, Barriere, Verbindungsteile) besteht der gesamte Steg aus unbehandeltem Eichenholz.
