Der Sonning Golf Club ist 100 Jahre alt und hat einen beeindruckenden Stammbaum. JH Taylor, einer der „Großen Triumvirate“ und fünfmaliger Open-Champion, entwarf das ursprüngliche Layout mit späteren Beiträgen von Harry Colt. Colt war natürlich für einige der besten Golfplätze der Welt verantwortlich, darunter Wentworth, Royal St Georges und Royal Melbourne, und sein Einfluss ist bis heute bei Sonning sehr präsent.
