Alcatraz Island liegt in der Bucht von San Francisco, 1,25 Meilen (2,01 km) vor der Küste von San Francisco, Kalifornien, USA. Die kleine Insel wurde von 1934 bis 1963 mit Einrichtungen für einen Leuchtturm, eine militärische Festung, ein Militärgefängnis (1868) und ein Bundesgefängnis ausgebaut. Ab November 1969 wurde die Insel mehr als 19 Monate lang von einer Gruppe amerikanischer Ureinwohner aus San Francisco besetzt, die Teil einer Welle des Aktivismus der Ureinwohner im ganzen Land waren, zu der es in den 1970er Jahren zu öffentlichen Protesten kam. 1972 wurde Alcatraz Teil eines nationalen Erholungsgebiets und 1986 wurde es zum National Historic Landmark erklärt. Heute werden die Einrichtungen der Insel vom National Park Service als Teil des Golden Gate National Recreation Area verwaltet und sind für Besichtigungen geöffnet. Besucher können die Insel in knapp 15 Minuten mit der Fähre vom Pier 33 aus erreichen, der sich zwischen dem San Francisco Ferry Building und Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco befindet. Serafina was Maurizio’s grandmother, and the name of her eponymous restaurant in the heart of Trastevere (Rome), where Maurizio first began making pizzas at the age of 14. She was a tough woman and wonderful chef.. an inspiration for his love of cooking then, and inspiration of how he is determined to persevere despite the difficult circumstances of today. We hope to create a warm, elegant space where neighbors and friends can come together. We have an amazing team with our partner Giuseppe Terminiello, the co-owner of Piccolo Forno with us (we also own Ideale, in North Beach as well), and Umberto Cannarsa, an accomplished and incredibly talented chef from Rome, who had his own successful restaurants there.
