Die Wiener Ringstraße ist 5,3 Kilometer lang. Lang genug, um Platz für zahlreiche monumentale Gebäude zu bieten, die während der Zeit des Historismus in den 1860er bis 1890er Jahren erbaut wurden. Heute gehören die Gebäude, die dort stehen — von der Wiener Staatsoper bis zum Museum der Schönen Künste — zu den wichtigsten Sehenswürdigkeiten der Stadt Wien.
Die bemerkenswertesten Gebäude sind nicht die Paläste, sondern die großen Gebäude wie die Staatsoper (erbaut im Stil der Neorenaissance), das Parlament, das Rathaus (Flämische Gotik), das Burgtheater (Neubarock), die Universität (Neorenaissance), das Museum für angewandte Kunst, die Wiener Börse, und die Votivkirche (Neugotik), die alle in der zweiten Hälfte des 19. Jahrhunderts erbaut wurden.

Das Riesenrad

Das Riesenrad im Wiener Prater ist eines der Wahrzeichen der Stadt. Aus fast 65 Metern Höhe hat man einen atemberaubenden Blick über die Donaumetropole.
1897 wurde das Wiener Riesenrad anlässlich des bevorstehenden 50. Jahrestages des Throns von Kaiser Franz Joseph erbaut. Das Riesenrad befindet sich direkt am Anfang des Wurstelpraters, eine der Gondeln bietet einen herrlichen Blick über die Stadt und den Prater. Der Durchmesser des Rades beträgt knapp 61 Meter, die gesamte Eisenkonstruktion wiegt 430 Tonnen. Das Rad dreht sich mit einer Geschwindigkeit von 2,7 km/h.

Der Stephansdom
Historisches Wahrzeichen
Der Stephansdom ist das Wahrzeichen Wiens. Der Bau begann im 12. Jahrhundert. Heute ist es das wichtigste gotische Gebäude in Österreich.
Der Stephansdom ist 107,2 Meter lang und 34,2 Meter breit. Ihm gehören vier Türme. Der höchste ist der Südturm mit 136,44 Metern. Über 343 Stufen erreichen Sie die Türmerstube, von der Sie einen gigantischen Blick über Wien haben. Insgesamt 13 Glocken hängen hier. Die berühmteste Glocke des Stephansdoms, der Pummerin, befindet sich im 68,3 Meter hohen Nordturm.
