Dear visitors, welcome to Altmarkt-Galerie Dresden. Since September 2013, we offer a wide range of world-famous labels such as Armani Jeans, H&M, and Laurèl. The Armani Lifestyle World in the Altmarkt-Galerie was the first Armani Jeans store in Germany. Many of our stores, e.g. Apple, Boss, Marc Cain, Guess, Gant, Högl Shoes, or Thomas Sabo are unique in the eastern states of Germany. The US cult label Hollister attracts young people from all over Saxony. Here at the Altmarkt-Galerie you can also find Germany’s fourth biggest Saturn with fantastic offerings in consumer electronics, home appliances, and entertainment. We do not only offer great fashion and electronics but also delicious food, e.g. our wonderful chocolate shop Viba. Since October 2013, Viba invites you to taste the finest chocolates in their „Erlebnis-Confiserie“ and the cafe in the Intecta building. (Entrance Altmarkt, first floor) The chocolate shop offers you mouth-watering insights in the creation of exquisite chocolate art. Dip into the world of Viba Erlebnis-Confiserie (Information in German) Also worth a visit: our pastry shop Kreutzkamm, situated directly at the Altmarkt entrance. This cafe reflects 185 years of family tradition. With the Altmarkt-Galerie, we continue 800 years history of commerce at the Altmarkt in Dresden. The employees of our 200 stores, restaurants, and cafes look forward to seeing you here soon.

Gemäldegalerie - Alte Meister

Museum
10 minutes away
History of the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden The Dresden art collections belong to the most renowned and oldest museum institutions in the world. In the 16th century, they emerged from the aristocratic collections, whose 450th anniversary the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden celebrated in 2010. Most importantly was the Kunstkammer, which was situated in the Dresden royal palace. Based on late Renaissance thinking, the Kunstkammer was a universal collection with an encyclopaedic approach and a strong focus on various instruments and technological innovations. The Dresden collections received its unique character, which has been valid until today, through the art spirit of two electors: August the Strong (1679-1733, Elector of Saxony since 1694, King of Poland since 1697) and his son August III (1696-1763, Elector and King since 1733). Ever since taking office, August the Strong supported the systematic development of his holdings. He passionately collected porcelain and precious items. Around 1720, the first special collections - among them the Grüne Gewölbe, the Skulpturensammlung and the Kupferstich-Kabinett - were arranged under his supervision. We have to thank his son for the extension of the old master's gallery, which became one of the most important galleries in Europe through the purchase of entire collections in the mid-18th century. Last but not least, the Dresden collections range among those which were first opened to a limited audience. After the disastrous end of the Seven Years' War (1756-63), decades of stagnation followed for the collections. Only were these difficulties surmounted with the collection reform designed by state secretary Bernhard August von Lindau and the construction of the new gallery building near the Zwinger (architect Gottfried Semper) in the mid-19th century. After the end of monarchy, the “Königliche Sammlungen für Kunst und Wissenschaft” (Royal Collections of Art and Science) were transformed into the “Staatliche Sammlungen für Kunst und Wissenschaft” (State Collections for Art and Science).

The Frauenkirche Dresden

Historical Landmark
6 minutes away
The Frauenkirche Dresden can look back on a 1000-year history. Already its predecessor churches were dedicated to the Mother of God and called Frauenkirche. In the 18th century, the famous dome structure by George Bähr was built and dominated Dresden’s cityscape for 200 years. The church was destroyed shortly before the end of World War II. Its ruin remained as amemorial at the heart of the city.
