About us

The Buchan Hotel is at the centre of many of the delights of North East Scotland. Family owned and managed, our hotel and restaurant offers the best in traditional Scottish hospitality. Located in the picturesque town of Ellon, we’re close to the River Ythan, with its famous estuary and excellent fishing beats. Also within easy reach are some fabulous golf courses. A short drive takes you to the Forvie Nature Reserve at Collieston and historic places such as Haddo House and Pitmedden gardens. There are twenty two beautifully appointed bedrooms, each with en suite facilities. They’re all non-smoking and many of them have views of the river Ythan and the surrounding countryside. The Hotel can also comfortably accommodate functions and conferences for up to 80 people.

The only way to find out about it was via word of mouth. No address was given, the only clue being a sign placed in the window, “Cocktails Here”. A lot of people thought it was pretty cool, even before The New York Times wrote about it. But that was all pre-pandemic, and this is a new era.
