Sustainable Practices

Please provide comments or a link to any publicly communicated Visit Baltimore's sustainability or social impact goals/strategy.
Waterfront Partnership’s Healthy Harbor Initiative works to restore and protect our city’s most valuable asset—the Baltimore harbor. Restoration initiatives such as the great oyster partnership and frequent water quality monitoring have made the harbor swimmable and fishable—a feat celebrated through a Harbor Splash that saw the mayor and more than 150 Baltimore residents jump into the water. Mr. Trash Wheel, a semiautonomous trash interceptor, is on the job keeping our harbor clean by collecting t approximately 500 tons of trash and debris each year.
Does Visit Baltimore have a strategy that focuses on the elimination and diversion of waste (i.e. plastics, papers, cardboard, etc.)? If yes, please elaborate on your strategy of elimination and diversion of waste.
The Baltimore Convention Center’s Diversion by Donation program diverts 150 tons of left over event materials annually from landfills. They also work with local family owned farms to divert food scraps to feed livestock and use for compost. Then the Center buys back the produce that is grown to serve guests while reducing feed costs for the farm.
