In August of 2016, chef Laurel Burleson launched the Ugly Apple Food Cart. She has been cooking in professional kitchens since high school and has a degree in hospitality management. After cooking for several years around Chicago and Madison, she saw how much was going to waste of this fantastic Midwestern produce. She envisioned owning a cafe that focused on delicious local produce.
Hence, the Ugly Apple was born.
Like the story of the Ugly Duckling, the Ugly Apple might not be bought at market but can still make a beautiful fritter. Our location offers easy access to area attractions like the Irvine Park Zoo, Leinenkugel’s Brewery, and Northern Wisconsin State Fairgrounds. We’re also a short drive from Chippewa Valley Regional Airport (EAU), the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire campus, and the town of Cadott, which hosts Rock Fest and Country Fest.
