The Zaanse Schans is a residential area in which the 18th and 19th centuries are brought to life. Stroll past the bakery museum and enjoy the smell of fresh cookies, or take a look at the warehouse where clogs are made. You should be sure not to miss the cheese factory, pewter foundry and the various windmills. The Zaanse Schans is a unique part of the Netherlands, full of wooden houses, mills, barns and workshops. Make a cycling or sailing trip, browse the shops or treat yourself at the pancake restaurant. A day out at the Zaanse Schans in North Holland is fun and educational.

If you have time to see only one museum, skip the rest and head straight to the Rijksmuseum. In Amsterdam since the early 1800s, it is the most visited museum in the city and one of the top art museums in The Netherlands. The culture and history of the city are expressed through more than 1 million works of art. The Dutch Masters, of course, have a large presence in the museum, but there is plenty more to see. Model ships tell the story of when Holland ruled the seas. The national print library (Rijksprentenkabinet) is there, as is the largest historical art library in the country. A ten-year, $ 440 million renovation was completed in 2013, so once again all the rich treasures of the Rijksmuseum are open to the public.

The goal was to offer an open place for creative talent. From this day, the church building on Weteringschans was a place that attracted youngsters, audiences and artists from Amsterdam, The Netherlands, Europe and the rest of the world. In the 40 years that followed, Paradiso has become a pop podium, a club and a cultural center in one.

Legend has it that the Volendam coat of arms is a compliment to the beauty of the Volendam girls. No wonder that a famous singer sang the praise of this characteristic Dutch fishing village in the words: "Anyone who wants to see the real beauty of Holland, goes to Volendam". As a result of its completely insulated location, this village preserved its character for six centuries, also because of the tough vitality of the fishermen. The characteristic small houses, which together with the canals and the drawbridges form the most picturesque spots, present the visitor an atmosphere of geniality and romance. Don’t forget to visit the Volendam museum with the ’Sigarenbandjeshuis’, where cigar rings are on display.
