Souq Waqif, Doha, Qatar

Shopping
12 kms
If you are looking for a wonderful place to shop, to dine, to explore or simply sitting at one of the many attractive outdoor cafe to watch the world pass by, look nowhere but Souq Waqif in Doha. For centuries, this location has been a souq for Bedouin (nomads who have historically inhabited the Arabian and Syrian Deserts.) to take the wool and animals to trade for daily necessities. With time pass, the souq started to run down and has almost get to the point of being demolish. Luckily, in 2004, it was decided to preserve this historical site so the entire market area has been renovated and restored according to the traditional Qatari architectural techniques. It’s probably the only traditional souq left in the Gulf. Besides the main street, don’t forget to explore the labyrinth like alleyways to find more stores. Here, you will find both souvenirs for tourists and shopping for locals – from fabric, spices and perfume to garden equipment and pets. Happy exploring! Most of the shops close around noon till 4p.m. So it’s best to find a cafe or restaurant and enjoy a good lunch. They do open all day. Maybe you should try the shisha too if you haven’t done so.

Doha Corniche

Park
8 kms
The Doha Corniche is a waterfront promenade extending for several kilometers along Doha Bay in the capital city of Doha, the state of Qatar. Running parallel to the Corniche is Corniche Street, a main thoroughfare which connects Doha's emerging West Bay business district with the south of the city and Doha International Airport. It was formed following extensive dredging work carried out during the late 1970s and early 1980s which reshaped Doha's coastline. The Corniche used to be an empty stretch of walkway in which the only visible edifice was a Sheraton Hotel, but development has increased in the 21st century with dozens of skyscrapers being built towards the north of the Corniche. The area's development is part of the economic boom the country has been experiencing and part of an effort promote tourism, which was facilitated by the 2006 Asian Games. Many of Doha's landmarks are found along the Corniche which begins near the Museum of Islamic Art, and ends at the Sheraton Park near the distinctive pyramid-shaped Sheraton Hotel. Al Rumaila Park is also nearby

Doha Golf Club

Recreation
7 kms
Doha Golf Club boasts an 18 hole Championship Course, a 9 hole Academy Course, an enormous driving range and putting green, 8 artificial lakes, graceful landscaping and a beautiful clubhouse designed in old traditional Arabic style, which has been located at one of the highest points on the course giving it a magnificent prominence. The Championship Course is a tough course from the back tees and offers many strategic and heroic holes where the scratch golfer can test his skills. The course has been designed with two starting and finishing holes which maximises playing flexibility and the number of daily rounds. The unusual 150 hectare site has been enhanced by emphasizing the natural attributes and features. We have created lakes which will double as obstacles and aesthetic features. We have planted about 5000 shrubs, 6000 trees, 10 000 cacti imported from Arizona which will emphasize the nature of the rugged surroundings. The Academy Course is less demanding and can be played by beginners, ladies and those who want to play a quick nine holes. The fairways are larger, the holes are shorter with less hazards and generally the course will allow the not-so proficient golfer to enjoy the game and the good golfer will have the opportunity to have an enjoyable round during a short break.

Mall of Qatar

Shopping
36 kms
Mall of Qatar is not a mall. It was conceived to be much more than that. It is actively thought about what Qatar and the region needed and then designed and re-designed space to excite, thrill, engage, relax, and unwind. It is about the wide space, warm sunshine and choices. It is the right place to gather friends together. Coffee breaks, dinners, shopping sprees gone wild. They invite fathers to spend full days sparking their children’s interest. And mothers to unwind in a much needed getaway. Place for the businessman in need of a break, and the businesswoman taking advantage of her free time. But more than that, its about moments of delight. Captivating attention on a stage designed to invoke excitement and with a performance troop trained to mesmerize.
