Local Attractions

Parque Nacional Isluga
Volcán Isluga National Park is located in the Andes, in the Tarapacá Region of Chile, near Colchane and south of Lauca Biosphere Reserve. It covers 1,747 square kilometers, with elevations ranging between 2,100 and 5,550 meters. It is named after Volcán Isluga, which at 5,550 m, is the tallest mountain in this park.
Geiser de Puchuldiza
Puchuldiza is a geothermal field. It is part of the Central Volcanic Zone of the Andes, close to the active volcano Isluga and several older volcanoes in the neighbourhood; the most recent activity from one of the neighbouring volcanoes was 900,000 ± 300,000 years ago. Geothermal features include geysers and hot springs. Puchuldiza has been inspected for the possibility that it may be suitable as a source for geothermal energy. The towns of Los Baños de Puchuldiza and Tuja lie in the area, and the active volcano Isluga 27 kilometres (17 mi) northeast of Puchuldiza. Iquique is located 150 kilometres (93 mi) southwest from the field.
Salar Grande
Salar Grande is a caldera in Chile. The region originally contained various rocks with ages ranging from Neoproterozoic to Triassic. Starting with the Oligocene, the Central Volcanic Zone was active and gave rise to calderas, lava domes, pyroclastic cones and stratovolcanoes. The region lies at an elevation of 3,500 metres (11,500 ft) and largely unknown to people. The Salar Grande caldera is located close to the border with Argentina, northeast of the Salar de Pedernales. The caldera has an elliptical form trending northwest-southeast, with dimensions of 50 by 25 kilometres (31 mi × 16 mi). As the caldera formed, some volcanoes collapsed into the depression. Ignimbrites from the eruption partly filled the caldera, whose scarp reaches an elevation of 500 metres (1,600 ft). The formation of the caldera was influenced by the neighbouring Pedernales-Arizaro fault. The caldera is the source of the Salar Grande ignimbrite, as well as the San Andrés ignimbrite that overlies the former. The ignimbrites erupted by Salar Grande crop out mainly east of the caldera. They are yellow, white and gray and embedded within Miocene basaltic andesite, andesite and dacite lavas. Ages range from 12.07 ± 0.6 - 9.8 ± 0.8 million years ago.
Salar del Huasco
Salar del Huasco is a salt flat dotted with ponds and salt marshes, and seasonally partially covered with water, in northern Chile. It is the centerpiece of the recently created Salar del Huasco National Park and was designated Ramsar Site 874 on 2 December 1996. The area has a significant population of flamingos. The salt flat is probably bordered by a fault on its western side, and a river delta forms much of its northern edge; it is now crisscrossed by stream channels. In the Pleistocene the salt flat was covered by a lake that was identified through its clay and diatomite sediments and which has left well preserved shorelines and terraces.
Aguas Termales de Mamiña
The Mamiña Springs are the perfect place to have a relaxing time, 1700 meters above sea level. Mamiña means “mi eyes girl”. It´s a great attraction in the middle of the precordillera with medicinal waters.
Oasis de Pica
This destination has an amazing geography, even though it is located right in the middle of the desert. The fog that comes from the Pacific Ocean, helps forming vegetation in the area, such as tamarugos and tropical trees, which are surrounded by mountains and volcanoes. In higher ground you can find a big colony of Chilean flamingos. Its weather conditions allow the visitors to enjoy cultural and historic vestiges all year, such as the Humberstone mine (what's left of it), painted geoglyphs and Unitas Hill, created by prehispanic cultures
Oficina Salitrera Humberstone
Humberstone and Santa Laura Saltpeter Works are two former saltpeter refineries located in northern Chile. They were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005.
Museo Palacio Astoreca
Palacio Baburizza is the former residence of Croatian businessman Pascual Baburizza located in Valparaíso, Chile. It was built in 1916 by Italian architects, and eventually turned into a museum in 1971, and declared a historic monument in 1976. Palacio Baburizza was built upon request from one of the most important families of Valparaiso, the Zanelli family. It was purchased in 1925 by Pascual Baburizza, a distinguished investor in saltpeter mines who managed to have an important fortune in Chile, which was largely devoted to philanthropic works. In 1971, the palace was bought by the local government of Valparaiso to be used as a museum and a school of Fine Arts. oday, it gathers an important collection of works; many of these bequeathed by Pascual Baburizza. Mauricio Rugendas, Alfredo Valenzuela Puelma, Alfredo Helsby and Carlos Hermosilla Álvarez are among the most important painters. The museum was closed for renovations in 1997 and reopened in 2011. The building is an art nouveau chalet with remarkable details in its woodwork, wrought iron, and central turret.
Paseo Histórico Baquedano
Baquedano Street is a long avenue in the old quarter of Iquique, Chile. It is a popular tourists attraction and is a “typical zone,” a status that preserves its historical and architectural heritage. It is characterized by its late 19th- and early 20th-century houses built of wood from Europe.
Playa Brava
Playa Brava
On this beach, dawn unveils hundreds of tourists and locals working out in the mornings. Its white and hard sands turn it into an ideal place for jogging. The ‘90s have left their trace in huge hotels which, with their modern and daring architecture, could take the sea up to the very rooms and common areas. On these beaches, as soon as the sun is hot, the surf boards seize the waters and, at the cry of “Let’s go surfin’ now, everybody´s learning how” (the song which made surfing famous in the world), dozens of young boys and girls from all around Chile begin to go deep into the sea.
Playa Cavancha
Playa Cavancha
Preferred by the youngest, surrounded by huge palm trees and proposed for the Blue Flag International Award (one of the cleanest beaches in the world), Cavancha Beach has all the necessary conditions to be the most popular beach in the city.
Zona Franca
