An IMAX Dome theatre truly puts you in the centre of the action! The images are projected through a fish-eye lens onto the giant overhead dome screen from a position near the centre of the theatre seating area. The curved steeply raked seating deck places the audience up in the dome completely involving them in the images projected on the screen. Seated in a comfortable chair the visitor participates in exciting adventures in space and time. The auditorium has a capacity to seat 293 people. Omniversum is fully disabled-accessible with three wheelchair spaces. The name Omniversum has been composed out of "Omnimax" and "Universe" (in Dutch the word is "Universum"). Omnimax is the very special 70mm film projection system and Universe reminds us of the astronomical films that were shown in our theatre when it was founded. Omnimax. The IMAX projector uses film ten times larger than a conventional 35mm frame and three times bigger than a standard 70mm frame. 35mm film moves vertically through a projector, IMAX moves horizontally. The sheer size of a 15/70 film frame, combined with the unique IMAX projection technology, is the key to the extraordinary sharpness and clarity of 15/70 format films. An image has to be big, because an image is enlarged 500 times onto the dome!
