Keukenhof tiene una rica historia. Durante siglos, la zona formó parte de la finca del castillo de Teylingen. Ese parque, de estilo paisajístico inglés, sigue siendo la base de Keukenhof. En 1949, el alcalde de Lisse unió a varios cultivadores de bulbos para organizar la primera exposición de flores.
