El Hotel do Caracol tiene como misión completar y enriquecer la oferta turística de las islas Azores ocupando una posición de referencia en ellas. Nuestro objetivo es cumplir con los niveles más altos de demanda. Entendemos que el archipiélago debe ser un destino atractivo para los visitantes más exigentes que buscan un lugar donde la calma, la naturaleza, la comodidad y la animación combinen la preservación del medio ambiente y las prácticas de gestión sostenible. La propiedad está ubicada en el lado occidental de Angra do Heroísmo, en una ubicación privilegiada. A lo largo del Océano Atlántico, en la zona media de la playa de Silveira, el hotel está rodeado por el Monte Brasil, con vistas a la bahía de Silveira. Ofrece una vista impresionante, en la que se aprecia el contraste entre el azul del mar y la vegetación verde. Las obras del fuerte comenzaron en abril de 1641 bajo el reinado de Juan IV (1640-1656), a partir de 1641, durante la Guerra de Restauración de la Independencia de Portugal, con el objetivo de fortalecer la defensa de esta sección estratégica de la frontera. Se terminó en 1658. Su diseño tenía como objetivo modernizar la protección que proporcionaba el antiguo castillo medieval, transformando el pueblo en la principal fortaleza del Algarve en ese momento. Posteriormente, durante el siglo XVII, se construyó un nuevo conjunto de murallas que conectaban el fuerte con la ciudad y el castillo medieval.
