La estación central de Amberes, también conocida como Middenstatie (estación intermedia) o Spoorwegkathedraal (catedral del ferrocarril), se utilizó por primera vez en 1905. La estructura está formada por una cubierta de plataforma de acero y un edificio de estación de piedra de estilo ecléctico. Recientemente, la estación se renovó por completo y, en 2007, se inauguró un túnel por debajo de la estación y una parte de Amberes, lo que invirtió el estatus de la estación como terminal en la que todos los trenes tienen que dar marcha atrás. En 2009, la revista estadounidense Newsweek eligió la estación central de Amberes como la cuarta estación de tren más bonita del mundo.
