En noviembre de 2014, el nuevo HOTEL ZOO BERLIN reabrió sus puertas tras una amplia renovación que duró dos años. Los huéspedes que ingresan al nuevo hotel son recibidos por una magnífica alfombra verde jade diseñada por Diane von Fuerstenberg, decorada con leopardos que se arrastran discretamente hasta el flotando mostrador de recepción. El techo de esta pasarela está decorado con impresionantes molduras de fantasía y el elegante mostrador de recepción está incrustado en la antigua mampostería del edificio original. Justo al lado del escritorio, el espacio se abre a la nueva sala de estar del hotel, que se extiende más de 7 metros hacia arriba, con ventanas industriales de cuerpo entero y una chimenea abierta de cinco metros de ancho en el centro. La habitación retoza sutilmente con las proporciones; combina la luz y la oscuridad con facilidad y juega con colores que agradan a la vista; una mezcla afable de varios tonos intensos de violeta, terciopelo y cuero combinados ingeniosamente con alfombras modernas. El edificio fue construido originalmente en 1891 como residencia privada por Alfred Messel, el arquitecto del museo de Pérgamo. El hotel ahora es propiedad de Manfred Weingartner y Robert Huebner. Las viejas vigas de hierro y las paredes revestidas de ladrillo de 1891 se abrieron durante la renovación y se integraron en el nuevo diseño. El proceso de restauración se encargó al departamento de arte de los renombrados estudios cinematográficos Babelsberg.
