El Aeropuerto Internacional El Dorado (IATA: BOG, ICAO: SKBO), es el principal y más importante aeropuerto de Colombia. Se encuentra a 15 kilómetros al oeste del centro de Bogotá. Opera vuelos nacionales e internacionales. Ocupa una superficie aproximada de 690 hectáreas Es el tercer pasajero más transitado de América Latina detrás del Aeropuerto Internacional de Guarulhos en São Paulo (Brasil) y el Aeropuerto Internacional de la Ciudad de México, en México. El aeropuerto recibió su nombre en 1959 en memoria de la famosa leyenda de El Dorado, por la cual los conquistadores europeos busqué infructuosamente en sus expediciones por las Américas una «ciudad dorada». La historia de Bogotá y del país en general está estrechamente ligada a esa leyenda, ya que cerca de la ciudad actual se encuentra la laguna de Guatavita, donde se celebraba un rito descrito en la famosa leyenda.
