Nobbys Lighthouse is an active lighthouse established on Nobbys Head in Newcastle in 1854 to guide vessels into the Hunter River.
The small tower is surrounded by three cottages which are significant as a record of the defence of Newcastle as it provided accommodation for defence staff during WWII (1942). In addition they are significant in their continued association with the signal station until 2001.
Nobbys Head, is a prominent physical landmark with the Nobbys Breakwall providing a popular spot for visitor recreation.

King Edward Park

King Edward Park was dedicated as a recreation reserve in 1863. Within the grounds was a bowling green and the Obelisk, built as a navigational marker in 1850; the focal point is a Victorian rotunda.
The park has spectacular ocean views, Norfolk Island pines and a sunken garden usually ablaze with colour.
On the southern boundary are the remains of the Shepherds Hill Battery and Gunner's Cottage which were in regular use from 1890 to World War II.
The park also has links with Newcastle's penal past, with the Bogey Hole (or convict-hewn ocean bathing pool) at the foot of the eastern cliff face.

White is best known for the many theatres and cinemas (or 'picture palaces' as they were then called) he designed in Australia and New Zealand in the 1910s and 1920s. Many of the major surviving historic theatres in the two countries are White designs, including the St. James Theatre, Wellington, St. James Theatre, Auckland, the Capitol Theatre and State Theatre in Sydney, and the Palais Theatre and the interiors of the Princess Theatre and Athenaeum Theatre in Melbourne.
