El municipio de Yaiza, ubicado en el sur de Lanzarote, es uno de los más extensos de la isla, con 27.195 hectáreas y los sitios turísticos y naturales más atractivos que ofrece a los visitantes. Fue el primer lugar de conquista y el primer enclave europeo en Canarias, conocido con el nombre de Rubicón que, por disposición pontificia, su modesta capilla de San Marcial pasó a ser catedral, erigiéndose así la primera diócesis del archipiélago, en 1404. Yaiza tiene una población de catorce mil quinientos cuarenta habitantes, siendo el núcleo principal Playa Blanca, con una población de once mil sesenta y ocho empadronados.
El principal atractivo natural del municipio es, sin duda, el Parque Nacional de Timanfaya, lugar único en el mundo y una de las expresiones más relevantes del reciente vulcanismo del archipiélago.
