La Garrotxa se encuentra sin salida al mar en la región de Girona, en el noreste de Cataluña: en su mayor parte, el terreno está por debajo de los 600 m s.n.m., aunque sus picos más altos superan los 1500 m.
En La Garrotxa se pueden disfrutar dos tipos de paisajes totalmente diferentes. Por un lado, más de 40 volcanes y numerosos flujos de lava cubren gran parte de la mitad sur de la comarca y dan lugar a un paisaje ondulado, hoy protegido por el Parque Natural de la Zona Volcánica de la Garrotxa, sin ningún relieve importante.
