El hotel fue construido originalmente en 1914 por un exitoso tendero local como hotel residencial para sus compradores. El nombre se inspiró en el exuberante entorno frente al río que recuerda a la ciudad insular caribeña, y el diseño renacentista mediterráneo del edificio refleja esta influencia y la arquitectura colonial española de los alrededores de San Antonio. La influencia panlatina del Hotel Havana rinde homenaje a los diversos elementos culturales de su homónimo cubano, así como a su proximidad a México y a las raíces de su hogar en San Antonio. La propiedad ofrece 27 habitaciones únicas que van desde estudios hasta suites King y Queen y un ático de dos niveles.
