The name Wind Horse stems from my ancestral Basque name Estribou, and has meanings across cultures and nations. In the shamanistic tradition of East Asia and Central Asia, Wind Horse is an allegory for the human soul. The Choctaw legend of Wind Horse tells of a horse who spent its life helping humans in times of trouble, and ultimately sacrificed itself out of love. In Buddhism, Wind Horse describes an inner well-being and life force. In Tibet, Wind Horse (lungta) is a mythical creature from pre-Buddhist times that combines the speed of the wind and the strength of the horse to carry prayers from earth to the heavens. To me, Wind Horse captures the essence of riding between worlds to carry messages, energy and healing. Common in all these legends is the heart of love whose nature is to serve others above self. The name also evokes the wind and flute-like shamanic sounds that travel through my voice.
