It is done with the origin that we come from Kii world in the Oei era year of the Muromachi era and reclaim the Nakano whole area, and kansei does 12 place honorific title of a Japanese god of Kumano Miyama of native district, and Kuro Suzuki called Nakano central figure worshiped. The precincts of the cause Kumano Shrine were large and were scenic spot of Edo autumn field where plural ponds and waterfalls were. It was often used in drama and ukiyoe, and generals visited here for falconry. In addition, there used be restaurants standing side by side around ponds. Although they had flourished until 1955, ponds were reclaimed in 1968. Today, it is not what it used to be. Inside the shrine, there are many important cultural assets.

More than 10,000 staff works for it. In the scenic room in the 45th floor, you can enjoy watching the view from 202 meters above the ground and see whole Tokyo and as far as Mount Fuji and Boso.

The present site of Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden was one part of Edo residence of the Naito family. On Edo entry into a fortress of Ieyasu, the second Kiyonari Naito who achieved the guidance was given this ground for the purpose of guarding the achievement and western traffic point of Edo-jo Castle. Then, Kiyokazu, the seventh head of Naito family, became the load of Takato Castle in Shinshu region, and the suburban residence on the site of Shinjuku Gyoen was called “Yotsuya-Soh”. At the end of the Okido Gate there is a Japanese garden centering around the “Tamamo Pond”, that is “Tamamo-Ike”, a part of former “Tamagawa-En”, which was completed in Edo era being the Garden of Naito-family. At the present site of Okido Rest House it is said that there was a palace and a scenic garden, called “Tamagawa-En”, with a pond, a valley and a miniature hill, was built. And then, Shinjuku Gyoen was completed as “Imperial Garden” in 1906. As a palace garden of the Imperial Family, Shinjuku Gyoen was firmly established for holding the party of watching cherry blossoms since 1917 and became well-known in foreign countries. At present “Tamamo Pond”(“Tamamo-Ike”) still shows sign of the residence of the Naito-Family in Edo era.
