The vision of the centre was first conceived in the late 1990s when it was recognised that a truly international convention centre would fill an obvious gap in the city of Cape Town’s tourism infrastructure, and have the potential to deliver a phenomenal impact on the local, provincial and national economy. A hop aboard the Vine Hopper shuttle takes one to any of the 200 cellars and historic estates of this famous wine region, with opportunities to sample wine, absorb Cape heritage or enjoy an evening of entertainment at open-air amphitheaters like those at the Spier or Oude Libertas estates.
