As the symbol of the old-line Xi’an, Big Wild Goose Pagoda is a well-preserved ancient building and a holy place for Buddhists. It is located in the southern suburb of Xi’an city, about 4 kilometers (2.49 miles) from the downtown of the city. Originally built in 652 during the reign of Emperor Gaozong of the Tang Dynasty (618-907), it functioned to collect Buddhist materials that were taken from India by the hierarch Xuanzang.

It has the large world famous collection of steles carved by Confucian, steles of Tang Dynasty calligraphy, various stone sculptures and steles engraved with historical records of the Song to Qing Dynasties and some famous poems.

The Shaanxi History Museum considers it an obligation to be a showcase of ancient civilizations. It is situated in the southern suburb of Xi’an city, northwest of the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. The museum occupies an area of 65,000 square meters (16 acres). It is a grand complex of buildings imitating the architecture style of the Tang Dynasty (618-907). The museum highlights the Zhou, Qin, Han and Tang period of history and cultures.

The city wall was initially built during theold Tang Dynasty (618-907) and it is the most complete city wall that has survived in China, as well being one of the largest ancient military defensive systems in the world.

The Bell Tower is a stately traditional building that marks the geographical center of the ancient capital. The wooden tower, which is the largest and best-preserved of its kind in China, is 36 meters (118 feet) and was built in 1384 by Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang as a way to dominate the surrounding countryside and provide early warning of attack by rival rulers Drum Tower, located less than half kilometers west of the Bell Tower, built in 1380 during the reign of Emperor Hongwu of the Ming Dynasty. The drums were used to signal the running of time and on occasion were used as an alarm in emergency situations. Upstairs is equipped with giant drum timekeeping, hence the name Drum Tower.

The Great Mosque in Xi’an is one of the oldest, largest and best-preserved Islamic mosques in China and its location is northwest of the Drum Tower (Gu Lou) on Huajue Lane. According to historical records engraved on a stone tablet inside, this mosque was built in 742 during the Tang Dynasty (618-907).

Lishan in Lintong, 30 kilometers (18.6 miles) from Xi’an city, Huaqing Hot Spring is famed for both its dainty spring scenery and the romantic love story of Emperor Xuanzong (685-762) and his concubine Yang Guifei in the Tang Dynasty (618-907). Visitor should visit and bathe in this hot spring.

The great archeological excavation of Qin (221BC -206BC ) Terra Cotta Warriors and Horses unfolded a strong army of altogether 7,000 life-size pottery soldiers, horses, chariots and weapons arranged in battle formations symbolically, guarding the tomb of Emperor Qin Shi Huang. The Grand Mausoleum of the first emperor of Qin and the warriors and horses buried in loess for over 2,000 years amaze every visitor there.
