In August of 2016, chef Laurel Burleson launched the Ugly Apple Food Cart. She has been cooking in professional kitchens since high school and has a degree in hospitality management. After cooking for several years around Chicago and Madison, she saw how much was going to waste of this fantastic Midwestern produce. She envisioned owning a cafe that focused on delicious local produce.
Hence, the Ugly Apple was born.
Like the story of the Ugly Duckling, the Ugly Apple might not be bought at market but can still make a beautiful fritter. A Private Country Club Committed to Personal Service The River Club of Mequon is a private country club under the management of Heritage Golf Group. Located in the northern suburb of Milwaukee; Mequon. The Club overlooks the beautiful southeastern Wisconsin scenery. The River Club of Mequon has three distinct nines that provide an abundance of beauty and plenty of challenges. Built in 1963, it was these 338 acres of elegant terrain that allowed original course designer David Gill, with recent upgrades from architect Bob Lohman, to incorporate water, rolling grasslands, and fairway-tightening timber into an enjoyable and stimulating test of golf for players of all skill levels. Five sets of tees help to promote parity and add enjoyment in every round of golf.

Baird Center has installed refillable water stations and our food and beverage partner, Levy Restaurants, has reduced the use of plastic dinnerware when possible.

Baird Center has a solar roof that provides 98,130 Kilowatt-hours. That’s the equivalent of the CO2 emissions from 7,488,199 smartphones being charged.

Baird Center's expansion and modernization project, completed in 2024, committed to a residents-preference program where at least 40% of the on-site construction labor hours were performed by workers living in Milwaukee’s most disadvantaged zip codes. Additionally, the Wisconsin Center District set a workforce goal of having at least 31% of labor hours worked by minority (25%), women (5%) and disabled veteran (1%) tradespeople. The project greatly exceeded those goals by reaching 41.3%.
