Less than 200 metres from Eastbourne beach and opposite the Western Lawns, the The Lansdowne, Eastbourne has sea-facing lounges with original Victorian features and free Wi-Fi. Beachy Head’s chalk cliffs are just 2 miles from the hotel.
1912 Seafood & Steak restaurant officially opened in 2022. when we transformed the space and the offering to be one of the go-to dining hotspots in Eastbourne. Open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The restaurant is located on the ground floor of the hotel and can be accessed through the hotel or its new street-side entrance. It is a large airy restaurant offering spectacular views over the sea, and a gorgeous backdrop to any meal.
The 1912 brand represents the Lansdowne’s fascinating history. The hotel is currently in its 112th year of being owned and run by the same family, now in its fourth generation. It is believed that the Lansdowne is one of only a handful of hotels in the UK that have been owned and run by the same family for over a century. Family is really important to us.
Eastbourne Pier is a 10-minute walk away and the Royal Eastbourne golf club can be reached after a 5-minute drive. Eastbourne Rail Station and the town centre are a 15-minute walk from the The Lansdowne, Eastbourne.
All rooms are decorated and include a TV, hairdryer and tea and coffee facilities. Some rooms have views across the sea and feature antique furniture.

All executive, superior and suite rooms are provided with bottled water and upgraded toiletries. We also have a number of family rooms available and can accommodate a family of four.

DEVONSHIRE PARK THEATRE
Théâtre
2 min
The Devonshire Park Theatre is a Victorian theatre located in the town of Eastbourne, in the coastal region of East Sussex. The theatre was designed by Henry Currey and was built in 1884. In 1903, it was further improved by the theatre architect Frank Matcham.
The Hippodrome Theatre, Seaside Road, opened in 1883 as the New Theatre Royal and Opera House, having been granted a Royal Patent by the Prince of Wales.
Mr. C.J. Phipps, a London architect who designed a number of theatres, was asked to draw plans and help raise finance for the scheme. The interior of the new theatre was partly modelled on his, now famous, Savoy Theatre in London. Before the end of the century, most of the famous theatrical personalities of the time had appeared at the theatre, including Ellen Terry and Richard D’Oyly Carte’s Savoy Opera Company.
In 1904 the theatre was renamed the Eastbourne Hippodrome and began a period of twice nightly variety shows. Among those performing before WW1 were Ada Reeve, Harry Houdini (who made a well publicised escape from Eastbourne police cells), Harry Tate, Marie Lloyd, Hetty King, Robb Wilton and Fred Karno’s Famous Troupe. Between the wars the theatre adapted and put on a number of different entertainments, including plays and films. And such stars as Vic Oliver, Cyril Fletcher, and Elsie and Doris Waters, then billed as ‘Stars of Radio’, appeared.
In the late 50s and early 60s, the theatre was bought by Eastbourne Borough Council and still the variety stars kept coming, including Tommy Trinder, Vera Lynn, Peter Sellers, Harry Secombe, Ken Dodd, Roy Hudd, and Bruce Forsyth, who was appearing at the Royal Hippodrome when he was called up to compere Sunday Night at the London Palladium.
The Royal Hippodrome has seen many changes over recent years and in 2019 we find the building finally being upgraded, refurbished and improved. After 5 years under the management of a local CIC the theatre is now receiving a £500,000 facelift thanks to new Directors, Alex and Debbie Adams. Improvements to the technical specification of the building, the internal spaces and of course the massive building project to expand the Foyer, are well under way. We have many more plans to improve and enhance the theatrical experience for all theatre goers and look forward to an exciting and fulfilling future.
The Congress Theatre is a Grade II* listed, purpose built, theatre and conference venue designed by Bryan and Norman Westwood Architects and built in 1963.
The venue underwent extensive renovation work in 2016 including the creation of the brand new Welcome Building which sits adjacent to the congress Theatre.
The largest theatre on the South Coast, the Congress Theatre is host to touring West End musicals and plays, ballet, opera, comedy and live music, the range of live entertainment on offer is extensive and diverse.
The venue has a seating capacity of 1,680.

Also for the children is an adventure playground to help "let off steam" and a play area for the under fives. The Observatory Science Centre is part of Science Projects Ltd: a company with charitable status dedicated to the promotion of science for everyone.
As a charitable organisation, profit from Science Projects contract work is invested into the historic site at Herstmonceux to maintain the Grade II* Listed Building and expand the exhibitions.
The Centre is an interactive science centre which has been operating in the former home of The Royal Greenwich Observatory since 1995. Since opening, this unique attraction has gone from strength to strength and now offers Spectacular Science amongst the domes and telescopes of a world famous observatory.
Founded in the 4th century as one of the last of the Roman 'Saxon Shore' forts, Pevensey Castle was also the landing place of William the Conqueror's army in 1066. Later it was pressed back into service as an emergency stronghold in the Second World War — you can still see machine gun posts camouflaged into the castle walls.
Visit the exhibition to discover stories of sieges and royal prisoners, see a recreated 1940s commander's office and pick up the phone to hear emergency messages. Children can crack the Pevensey Castle Code, peer into the dungeon and make the most of the wide open spaces on an adventure in the fresh air.
