Le Fort Rouge est un fort historique de la ville de Delhi en Inde qui a servi de résidence principale aux empereurs Moghals. L'empereur Shah Jahan commanda la reconstruction du Fort Rouge le 12 mai 1638, lorsqu'il décida de transférer sa capitale d'Agra à Delhi. D'abord rouge et blanc, sa conception est attribuée à l'architecte. Elle a été reconstruite entre mai 1639 et avril 1648. Le 15 août 1947, le premier premier ministre de l'Inde, Jawaharlal Nehru, hissa le drapeau national indien au-dessus de la porte de Lahori. Au centre de New Delhi se dresse la porte de l'Inde de 42 m de haut, une arche en forme d'Arc-de-Triomphe au milieu d'un carrefour. Presque semblable à son homologue français, il commémore les 70 000 soldats indiens qui ont perdu la vie en combattant pour l'armée britannique pendant la Première Guerre mondiale. Le mémorial porte les noms de plus de 13 516 soldats britanniques et indiens tués à la frontière du Nord-Ouest lors de la guerre d'Afghanistan de 1919. À la tombée de la nuit, la porte de l'Inde est très éclairée par les inondations tandis que les fontaines à proximité font un bel étalage avec des lumières colorées. India Gate se trouve à une extrémité de Rajpath, et la zone qui l'entoure est généralement appelée « porte de l'Inde ».
