To experience some of the traditional markets on the island, you need to get out of Palma. Mallorca is very well connected by bus and train services, so you should be able to easily find public transport from the capital to the nearby market towns. The biggest market is on Thursdays at Inca, which is halfway between Palma and Alcúdia. The most traditional is the Wednesday market at Sineu, right in the center of the island, which still offers traditional agricultural produce and livestock. The market at Santa María on a Sunday sells everything - think flea market combined with fresh fruit and vegetables. The smaller towns have markets that focus on local produce such as fruit and veg, and you'll find stalls of trinkets and jewelry at every market on the island. Markets tend to open at 08:00 and run until 13:00. Almost every town in Mallorca has a weekly market, each held on a different day of the week. This means there’s more than enough opportunity to visit a market on the island during your stay on the island. A village steeped in old-world charm, Valldemossa lies in an idyllic valley in the midst of the Tramuntana mountains. With a population of around 2,000 people, Valldemossa's quiet and picturesque streets are sprinkled with shops, art galleries, cafes, and restaurants. Doorways are lined with beautiful plants and flowers, and many houses feature a portrait of Saint Catalina Thomàs, the first saint to be born in Mallorca. The natural beauty of the countryside makes Valldemossa a popular place for hikers and nature lovers to base themselves. There is a myriad of trails that wind their way up through the wooded hillsides before reaching the summits where hikers are rewarded with panoramic views over Mallorca and the Mediterranean. It’s also a favorite destination for those looking to escape the more touristy beach resorts on the island in favor of a tranquil holiday. There are a couple of charming hotels within the village, with several more boutique-styled fincas and old manor house hotels in the surrounding countryside. It’s the kind of place you want to sit back and soak up the scenery with a warm drink and pastry in the winter and a cold glass of wine and nibbles in the summer. Most tourists come to Valldemossa on day trips to see the Real Cartuja, the Carthusian Monastery where Chopin and George Sand once spent a winter. Visitors tend to stay for a few hours before continuing on towards Deia, another mountain village on the west coast that overlooks the sea and the setting sun.

A stroll around the inside of La Granja de Esporles will allow you to discover what life was like in an agricultural estate and stately home 400 years ago. A large number of traditional crafts can be seen on your way through the mansion: from weaving to making oil, processing grain and manufacturing paper; occupations such as doctors and perfumiers… as well as several rooms dedicated to the day-to-day activities of the possessió (kitchens, parlors, bedrooms, games rooms and rooms for children …) and more sinister activities such as those carried out in the torture chamber. If the inside of the possessió has a tour of the traditional crafts and ways of life from past times, its exterior offers a wealth of surprises as you walk through its lush gardens with natural waterfalls and a stream running through the typical woodland of the Serra de Tramuntana mountains. Various outdoor spaces are dedicated to caring for native animals that will delight children, and other spaces are used to showcase crafts relating to the agricultural activity of the possessió.
