The Buddhist temples known as "Wats" are among the most recognizable landmarks in Thailand. The largest of Phuket's 29 Buddhist temples is Wat Chalong. Visit the sacred Wat Chalong temple to take in its beauty, serenity, and rich history. This is one of Phuket's most famous and revered temples; it was previously the residence of the revered monk Luang Por Chaem. During the reign of His Majesty King Rama V, when the Chinese Coolie Rebellion broke out in 1876, this revered monk provided aid to the people. As with the other great monks who once called this temple home, Luang Po Chuang and Luang Po Kluem, Luang Po Chaem's statue has been enshrined in the main hall.
