In de 14e eeuw was het begijnhof gevestigd in het voormalige park rondom het kasteel. Op zijn hoogtepunt in 1675 telde het begijnhof 370 begijnen. Daarna volgden verschillende dieptepunten met brandrampen, plunderingen, de pest en andere plagen. De prachtige barokke begijnhofkerk van 1666 - 1667, de Kapel van het Heilig Gezicht en de gerestaureerde Calvariekapel zijn gelukkig ongedeerd gebleven. Geniet ervan en laat de wereld even stilstaan.

Geschiedenis van de brouwerij Toen we eind 2000 een particuliere bierproeverij begonnen, had niemand kunnen dromen dat we 15 jaar later een superbrouwerij tot onze beschikking zouden hebben. Destijds heette de bierproeverij nog „de Orde van de Natte Mus” met als logo twee mussen met een biertje in hun nest. Tijdens het proeven groeide de interesse voor alles wat met bier te maken had, we proefden ook af en toe minder lekkere bieren maar na een tijdje ontstond er een „dat kunnen we misschien beter zelf doen” gevoel.
