During your stay in Florence, we recommend a visit to the famous Brunelleschi's dome at the Basilica of Santa Maria del Fiore in Piazza Duomo. Brunelleschi's masterpiece covers the transept of Florence Cathedral, and it is the largest masonry dome ever built. In fact, the longest diagonal stretch of the inner dome measures 45.5 meters, while the outside is 54 m.. Its weight is estimated at 37,000 tons and it is thought that over four million bricks were used for its construction. The lower part of Brunelleschi's cupola has frescoes painted by Giorgio Vasari and Federico Zuccari between 1572 and 1579. It is the biggest fresco in the world (3600 sqm) and it depicts scenes from the Last Judgement.

Located only a short distance from the 4-star Brunelleschi, the Uffizi Gallery is one of the most famous museums worldwide for its extraordinary paintings and ancient statues. We recommend and advanced booking to avoid long queues and delays. The Florence museum's collections from the fourteenth century and the Renaissance contain some of the world's best-known masterpieces. Giotto, Simone Martini, Piero della Francesca, Beato Angelico, Filippo Lippi, Botticelli, Mantegna, Correggio, Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo and Caravaggio are just some of the Italian artists you will see here. The gallery also has a vast selection of German, Dutch and Flemish masters. Among these: Dürer, Rembrandt and Rubens. The Gallery is situated on the top floor of the large building designed by Giorgio Vasari. It was founded by Grand-Duke Francesco I and subsequently added to by the Medici family. It was rearranged and expanded by the Lorraine dynasty and finally by the State of Italy. The Contini Bonacossi collection and the Prints and Drawings of the Uffizi are also on display. Booking early, you will be also able to visit the Vasarian Corridor. Built in 1565, it connects the museum to the renowned Palazzo Vecchio and Pitti.

The Accademia Gallery is known for containing several sculptures by Michelangelo: the Prisoners, the St. Matthew and the famous David. In the adjacent rooms, important works of art from the nineteenth century have been collected from the Accademia of Design, the Accademia of Fine Arts and from convents. They are mostly religious paintings by major artists who were working in and around Florence from the second half of the thirteenth until the end of the sixteenth centuries. In particular, the series of gold backgrounds is unique in the world.

Palazzo Pitti in Florence was once the palace of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany, formerly inhabited by the Medici, Lorraine and Savoy dynasties. It is situated in Piazza Pitti, in the Oltrarno, about a ten-minute walk from our Florence hotel. Palazzo Pitti hosts several galleries: an art gallery (the Palatine, with masterpieces by Raphael, Titian, etc.) arranged according to the criterion of eighteenth-century paintings, monumental apartments, the Modern Art section (with the works of Macchiaioli) and other specialised museums: the Museo degli Argenti, dedicated to applied arts, the Costume museum, the most important one focusing on fashion, the Porcelain and the Carriage Museums. The Giardini dei Boboli, one of the best examples of Italian gardens, are located behind the main building of the Palazzo.

Palazzo Vecchio in Florence was originally called Palazzo dei Priori. Its name was then changed to Palazzo of Signoria and subsequently, as the residence of Cosimo I, to Palazzo Ducale. It became known as Palazzo Vecchio when the Medici family moved to Palazzo Pitti. Today it is the Florence Town Hall and also a museum containing rooms offering works by artists such as Agnolo Bronzino, Ghirlandaio, Giorgio Vasari. Here you can visit the Salone dei Cinquecento, which houses a fresco of the battle of Marciano mentioned by Dan Brown in his latest novel set in Florence. Other must-see masterpieces: the Giuditta by Donatello, the Genio della Vittoria by Michelangelo and the Putto del Verrocchio. The Palazzo Vecchio façade is one of the visual symbols of the city and features the Tower of Arnolfo which is 94 meters high and from where splendid views can be admired.
