La Lagoa dos Salgados est une petite zone humide côtière située entre Armação de Pêra et Albufeira, réputée pour sa remarquable richesse ornithologique. C'est l'un des endroits les plus fascinants de l'Algarve pour l'observation des oiseaux. Plus de 150 espèces y sont présentes chaque année, dont certaines sont rares et très sensibles. Elle est classée zone importante pour la conservation des oiseaux (IBA), statut accordé par la Société portugaise pour l'étude des oiseaux/BirdLife International, et attend d'être désignée réserve naturelle, selon un projet proposé par l'Institut pour la conservation de la nature et les forêts. Parmi les espèces d'oiseaux les plus régulièrement observées dans cette région figurent le busard des marais, le marécage violet, la spatule eurasienne, la barge à queue noire et le héron pourpre, entre autres. La région possède également une valeur botanique importante, étant l'un des sites les plus importants pour la présence de l'espèce endémique Linaria algarviana.
