In August of 2016, chef Laurel Burleson launched the Ugly Apple Food Cart. She has been cooking in professional kitchens since high school and has a degree in hospitality management. After cooking for several years around Chicago and Madison, she saw how much was going to waste of this fantastic Midwestern produce. She envisioned owning a cafe that focused on delicious local produce. Hence, the Ugly Apple was born. Like the story of the Ugly Duckling, the Ugly Apple might not be bought at market but can still make a beautiful fritter. The Brooklyn Comedy Collective is a comedy theater and school in Brooklyn with a mission to produce irreverent, fearless shows from a wide range of voices and inspire students to approach performance from a place of joy and fierceness. From year-round comedy classes to workshops for businesses large and small to improv festivals and live comedy produced Tues-Sundays nights in East Williamsburg, we celebrate anyone who wants to let their freak flag fly. We offer a wide array of classes in improv, sketch, and stand-up and more - available year-round at our fabulous training centers in North Brooklyn - The Dog House (137 Montrose Ave, Brooklyn) & The Pig Pen (144 Boerum St, Brooklyn). Just a 1 minute walk away, we produce shows Tuesday-Sunday at our two-floor, kick-ass theater called Eris (167 Graham Ave, Brooklyn). We offer private shows and team-building improv workshops teaching the skills of improvisation to businesses and orgs of all size, including Fortune 500 companies, at our space our yours.
