Zones protégées Le parc naturel du sud-ouest de l'Alentejo et de la côte Vicentine est la partie la mieux préservée du littoral européen, couvrant plus de 100 km, de Porto Covo dans l'Alentejo à Burgau en Algarve. Le parc abrite diverses espèces animales et végétales uniques et est visité par de nombreux zoologistes et botanistes du monde entier. Le paysage est marqué par des falaises abruptes, représentées dans le logo du parc, qui ont pris des formes et des couleurs variées au fil de siècles d'érosion. De nombreuses espèces d'oiseaux peuvent être observées, comme de rares aigles pêcheurs. L'espèce la plus rare est la cigogne blanche, étant donné que c'est le seul endroit au monde où elle construit son nid dans les rochers du bord de mer. Une autre rareté est la loutre, car c'est le seul endroit au Portugal et l'un des derniers endroits en Europe où il est possible de trouver des loutres dans un habitat marin. La flore comprend le plus grand nombre d'espèces prioritaires au Portugal, y compris des espèces indigènes uniques telles que Biscutella vicentina ou Plantago Almogravensis. Les plages sont très appréciées des surfeurs et sont les plus belles du pays. Il existe une grande variété de plages, notamment de longues étendues de sable et de petites plages nichées entre les falaises et les rochers. La longue liste comprend des plages telles que Porto Covo, Malhão, Vila Nova de Milfontes, Almograve, Monte Clérigo, Arrifana et Praia do Amado.
