The Horloge Fleurie is as much a Geneva emblem as the Jet d'Eau. Created in 1955, it brings together the city's two great crafts — watchmaking and horticulture — with a floral design of more than 3,000 plants, replanted four times a year to follow the seasons. Its hands were made and donated by Patek Philippe, and its 2.5-metre second hand is thought to be the largest in the world.

The Jet d'Eau , Geneva's landmark

Historical landmark
24 mins
A 15-minute walk along the lake from the hotel, the Jet d'Eau is Geneva's defining landmark, sending a column of water 140 metres into the sky. It began by accident: a pressure relief valve on the city's hydraulic power station in the 1880s, which quickly drew an audience and was moved out onto the lake. Since 1951 a dedicated pumping station has pushed 500 litres of water a second skyward at 200 km/h. From the hotel door to under the jet, a lovely 24 minutes walk around the lake
