The prison was mostly demolished in the 1990s and turned into a museum. Cells and dungeons can still be visited. To meet the growing demand for visitors, the Hoa Lo Prison Relic has launched a night tour program, which is not just a tour, but an emotional cultural and historical experience.

Between 1925 and 1932, it was redesigned by French architect Ernest Hebrard in Indochinese style and became the Louis Finot Museum. The museum was reopened in 1958 by the Vietnamese Government and now presents thousands of pieces and documents introducing and explaining the history of national construction and defense of the Vietnamese people.
