The Underwater Museum of Art or MUSA is a museum located under the waters of the Mexican Caribbean Sea. The museum officially opened in November 2010, during the celebration of COP 16. Currently, MUSA is one of the largest and most ambitious underwater attractions in the world. Due to the appropriation and metamorphosis that marine life makes of the sculptural work, it could be considered as a co-creation between human and nature. As the inert sculptures come to life under the sea, their aesthetic appearance is mutated and human references become blurred by lively coral reefs. The sculptures occupy an area of 420 m2 of sterile substrate and reach a weight of more than 200 tons, being ecologically conceptualized from all areas in order to promote coral life: the materials with which they are made, the implementation of these in the sea floor and the way visitors are invited to tour the museum.
