La cupola della bomba atomica è stata inserita nella lista del patrimonio mondiale dell'umanità, essendo un edificio che comunica la totale devastazione causata dalle armi nucleari nel dicembre 1996 alla 20a Convenzione del Comitato del Patrimonio Mondiale dell'UNESCO a Merida.
Attualmente rappresenta una pietra miliare della devastazione causata al momento dei bombardamenti, ed è il simbolo del motto «Mai più Hiroshima». Nel corso delle generazioni è diventato un simbolo dell'abolizione delle armi nucleari e dell'importanza di una pace duratura in tutto il mondo.
